Good posture involves having a relaxed appearance and a neutral spine. A neutral spine retains three natural curves: a small hollow at the base of the neck, a small roundness at the middle back, and a small hollow in the lower back.
When posture is correct, the ears, shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles should align in one straight line.
The Spiral scan assesses posture along the median, coronal and transverse planes (dividing front / back, left / right and upper / lower).
The Spiral scan assesses postural alignment along the three planes, as well as torsional rotation (twisting) that may indicate potentially damaging misalignment.
Healthcare experts such as physiologists, physical therapists and chiropractors have known for many decades that postural misalignment may lead to chronic conditions such as low-back pain and osteoarthritis.
The Spiral studies are designed to improve our ability to correlate postural alignment with susceptibility to musculo-skeletal injury, disease and chronic pain. After year one, Spiral and Health Fare will determine if longitudinal scanning will be provided.
